The teacher called the kids over to the circle mat to have a snack, and I saw it...the fear in Keith's eyes. He ran to me and started crying. Not great. I tried to talk him down, and he seemed calm. He slowly went over to the mat and...straight out the door. I tried not to step on his classmates as I rushed after him before he made it outside! The teacher got there first and Keith did his "crumble and put his face to the floor" move that he does when he is overwhelmed. (first of all, gross! )
I picked him up and carried him into the classroom and sat with him in the circle. He calmed down and eventually sat and ate his munchkin and water with the rest of the kids. THEN the teacher asked them to line up and go outside to the playground while the parents stayed inside to talk. I was looking at the door waiting to run after him when he got up, put his trash away, and stood first in line to go outside. Hmmm, maybe this isn't so bad!
He went and played and was fine. Phew.
Tomorrow we have to drop him off and leave...I can only hope for the best. Wish us luck.
